Professor Ahmed Kovacevic has won the Institution of Mechanical Engineering (IMechE) James Clayton Prize (2020) for his outstanding contribution to the field of fluid machinery.

outstanding contribution to the field of fluid machinery

James Clayton Prize is given for exceptional contribution to mechanical engineering and related science, technology and invention – by way of research, invention, experimental work, a paper on a modern engineering subject, originality in engineering design, or service to engineering.

I am extremely honoured to receive this prestigious prize which is a tribute to the work of our team in the field of fluid machinery.Ahmed Kovacevic

Professor Kovacevic is the director of the Centre for Compressor Technology, a constitutive part of the large Thermo-Fluids Research Centre at City, University of London. He is internationally renowned for his pioneering work on advanced methods and tools for analysing and designing rotary positive displacement machines and his outstanding contribution to the screw compressor industry.

About 20% of electricity generated in developed countries is used for compression. Professor Kovacevic has been working on minimising the impact of these systems on the environment. Currently, he works on worthy of note SECRET project, which aims to develop novel energy-efficient compression technologies. It is set to reduce losses in the new generation of oil-free compressors by 20%. The 5-year project is conducted in collaboration with Howden and Centre for Compressor Technology and is supported by an award from the Royal Academy of Engineering.

Here at PDM Analysis we support constant development of screw machines with the aim to reduce environmental impact and increase profitability of our customers by:

  • Continuous implementation of latest findings from the fundamental and applied research generated from our partnership with City, University of London in our tools SCORG and SCORG alto
  • Ensuring easy access of our software and knowledge to the OEMs, consultants, researchers, educators and students
