PDM Analysis and our SCORG Software at Chillventa 2024

Posted on October 15, 2024

PDM Analysis and our SCORG Software were at Chillventa 2024.  Chillventa is a biennial event that gathers exhibitors and visitors from all around the world to discuss the latest trends and solutions in the field. Chillventa offers trade forums and special presentations on a multitude of topical issues covering the entire spectrum of refrigeration technology.

This year, we did things a little differently. With so many projects in the works we had to divide and conquer. Ivona was lucky enough to be tasked with representing us at Chillventa from the 8th to the 10th of  October 2024 in Nuremberg. We caught up with Ivona Ivkovic-Kihic, Research Project Coordinator at City, University of London and Software Consultant at PDM Analysis Ltd, to ask her about the experience as she represented both organisations in Nuremberg.

What specific products or technologies did you showcase at Chillventa, and how do they cater to the HVAC and refrigeration sectors?

Ivona: “At Chillventa, we were highlighting SCORG, a cutting-edge software for simulating screw compressors, expanders, and pumps. It helps companies in HVAC and refrigeration to design more efficient machines through advanced modelling of thermodynamic and fluid dynamics processes. As we went from stand to stand, we spoke to industry leaders and clients about the advancements we have made to SCORG and how they can benefit them. We got a lot of interest!”

Can you explain the unique features of your SCORG software and how it benefits clients in compressor design and analysis?

Ivona: “SCORG’s unique strength lies in its ability to simulate flow, temperature, and pressure distribution in 3D geometry. It helps engineers optimize designs for various applications, ensuring energy efficiency, reduced wear, and higher performance. The software integrates seamlessly with existing CAD systems, offering customization based on specific client needs. In collaboration with Gamma Technologies we created GT-SCORG which enables optimisation of the entire vapour compression refrigeration, heat pump and air-conditioning systems.”

What are the latest trends in compressor technology that PDM Analysis is currently focusing on?

Ivona: “We are focusing on energy efficiency, particularly in high-speed, low-vibration compressor designs. This includes trends towards environmentally friendly refrigerants and improving the accuracy of performance predictions, reducing CO2 emissions, and meeting stricter global energy regulations. SCORG’s advanced modelling ensures compliance with these regulations while pushing the boundaries of compressor performance. A lot of professionals we spoke with at Chillventa were excited about our push for sustainability, it’s always a point of interest in our industry.”

How does PDM Analysis collaborate with clients for customized R&D solutions?

Ivona: “PDM Analysis works closely with clients through the entire R&D cycle, from conceptual design to product optimization. We offer bespoke design simulations based on specific operational conditions, providing custom analyses for improving machine efficiency, durability, and cost-effectiveness. We collaborate with companies worldwide, offering consultation at every step to ensure tailored solutions. Some of our partners were at Chillventa this year, like Howden compressors with whom we have projects such as Project Secret. Our customer base includes Howden, Mayekawa, Hitachi, Kobelco and many other companies.”

What training or consultancy services do you offer for companies adopting your technologies?

Ivona: “In addition to offering our SCORG software, we provide extensive training workshops to help engineers fully leverage the tool’s potential. In collaboration with the Centre for Compressor Technology from City St George’s University of London, our consultancy services include expert guidance on mechanical design, thermodynamic analysis, and flow optimization, enabling clients to adapt our solutions to their unique applications. We aim to enhance their internal capabilities, ensuring a long-term partnership for innovation.”

PDM Analysis looks forward to many more Chillventas and similar events where we can continue to exchange knowledge and experiences. Thanks for representing us this year Ivona, until next time!
